Tea Service

Tea Service is a project that attempts to reimagine mass-manufactured reproduction tea sets popular among the growing middle classes in the mid-twentieth century. The tea sets are sandblasted to remove their tarnished silver-plating before being powder coated in a range of contemporary colours with a glossy finish. By effect, the objects have become nostalgic reproductions of the “original” reproductions. The new objects are likewise aimed to a contemporary mid-income consumer, people for whom possession of the silver tea set, imitation or otherwise, carries only loosely nostalgic associations with the object’s former status and luxury.
